Jannik Sinner Compared to Prime Djokovic After Dominating Alexander Zverev in Australian Open Final

Alexander Zverev heaped praise on Jannik Sinner after suffering a decisive defeat in the Australian Open final on Sunday. The German remarked that Sinner is playing at a level comparable to Novak Djokovic at his peak, even suggesting the Italian is on "a different universe" in the current tennis landscape.

Top-ranked Sinner, just 23 years old, secured his third Grand Slam title with a commanding 6-3, 7-6 (7/4), 6-3 win over second-seeded Zverev. Having already claimed the US Open title, Sinner’s dominance in Melbourne solidifies his position as one of the most formidable players on the tour.

Zverev admitted he struggled against Sinner's relentless game, saying, "He's very, very similar to Novak when he was at his best. They rarely make mistakes and force you to overhit just to stay in the rally."

The German further explained that competing against Sinner felt akin to facing Djokovic in his prime, stating, "They’re always on the baseline, giving you no time or space. It’s incredibly tough to win points from the back of the court against them. Right now, Sinner is simply too good for me."

Known for his exceptional skill on hard courts, Sinner appears unstoppable, with Zverev adding, "He’s playing in a different universe right now. It’s like he’s prime Novak."

For Zverev, the loss extends his Grand Slam drought, having now fallen short in all three major finals he’s contested. The 27-year-old expressed determination to break this streak, saying, "I don’t want to end my career as the best player to never win a Grand Slam. I’ll keep pushing to lift one of those trophies."

While Zverev remains committed to his pursuit of a Grand Slam title, it’s clear that Sinner’s current dominance on the court makes him a formidable hurdle for anyone aiming for tennis glory.
