The first case of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) has been detected in Bangladesh. A woman from the Bhairab area in Kishoreganj has been infected with the virus. She has no history of foreign travel and is currently undergoing treatment at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Mohakhali, Dhaka.

Dr. Halimur Rahman, Line Director of the Infectious Disease Control Branch of the Directorate General of Health Services, confirmed this information on Sunday. He stated that the woman tested positive for the HMPV virus. However, she is also infected with the bacterium Klebsiella pneumoniae.

He explained that while her physical condition has worsened due to bacterial pneumonia, she has not been significantly affected by the HMP virus.
