Linda, alongside her sisters Coleen, Maureen, Bernie, Denise, and Anne, rose to fame in the late 1970s and '80s with hits like the disco classic I'm In The Mood For Dancing.
Her sisters shared a heartfelt tribute on The Nolans’ official X account, describing Linda as "a pop icon and beacon of hope" who faced her incurable cancer "with courage, grace, and determination." They noted that Linda inspired millions with her strength.
Linda died peacefully in the hospital, surrounded by her family. Her agent Dermot McNamara confirmed in a statement that she passed "embraced with love and comfort" from her siblings.
Linda's career with The Nolans, one of the most successful girl groups of all time, achieved global success, including selling over a million records worldwide. They toured internationally and sold over 30 million records. Linda's powerful voice and magnetic stage presence made her a beloved figure in British and Irish entertainment.
Beyond music, Linda devoted much of her life to charity, raising over £20 million for causes such as Breast Cancer Now, the Irish Cancer Society, and the Samaritans, among others. Her selflessness and dedication to helping others are key elements of her legacy.
Linda’s battle with cancer began in 2006 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After undergoing treatment and achieving remission, she was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in 2017. She later revealed in 2023 that the cancer had spread to her brain. Despite her health challenges, Linda remained a source of strength for her family and fans.
Linda's family has faced several battles with cancer. In addition to Linda, her sister Bernie passed away from cancer in 2013, and her husband Brian Hudson died of skin cancer in 2007. However, her sister Anne is currently cancer-free.
Among those paying tribute to Linda were TV star Cheryl Baker and comedian Tommy Cannon, who described Linda as "a joy" and "full of warmth and love." The Blackpool Grand Theatre also honored Linda as a "true Blackpool icon."
Linda's incredible career, her contributions to charity, and her courage in the face of illness will remain a lasting part of her remarkable legacy.
