Shockin Outbreak 12 LGBTQ + Students Among 25 New HIV Cases in Jessore Bangladesh
In Jessore, 25 new HIV/AIDS cases have been reported this year, including 12 students, all of whom are homosexuals, confirmed by Dr. Harun-or-Rashid, superintendent of Jessore 250-bed General Hospital. This marks the first time students have been identified as HIV-positive, a condition traditionally seen among workers engaged in unprotected sex. Dr. Harun emphasized the need for stronger social and religious values to control unregulated sexual behavior, calling on religious leaders to take an active role.
The workshop, held to address the growing issue, also revealed that Bangladesh currently has 16,000 known HIV/AIDS patients, with 10,000 identified through testing. There is a national plan to bring 95% of these patients under treatment by 2030. The session stressed the importance of HIV testing and early diagnosis to manage the disease effectively.
An ART (Antiretroviral Therapy) center is now open at Jessore 250-bed General Hospital, offering treatment to those affected. The workshop highlighted the rising number of homosexual individuals among students and the need for more education on safe sexual practices to prevent the spread of HIV. Participants called for continued efforts, awareness programs, and community engagement to combat the HIV/AIDS crisis in the region.
